FOCUS project – FOam Casting and Utilization in Space

The European Colombus modul of the International Space Station will give place to the FOCUS foaming experiment (expected in February of 2010.) to examine the behaviour of aqueous foam structures in microgravity. The scientific outcome will facilitate the on-ground-technology development on metallic foams inter alia. The scientific background and the hardware development, testing etc. is procured by Admatis Ltd., while ESA is responsible for qualification, shipping and operating the hardware. The project is a SURE financed cooperation with ESA where the new EU member state scientists and SMEs get chance to partake in scientific experiments on board of ISS. Our experiment hardware succeeded all necessary pre-flight qualification procedures inclusive the end of 2009. The launch of FOCUS experiment is 3rd of February 2010 and it will be carried out 8 th of February 2010.
